Creating a Space of Calm

We have each found ourselves in an experience that is unlike anything we have experienced in modern times.  The information that is continuously streaming into our consciousness is having an impact.  Yes, we are gaining what is believed to be the most comprehensive facts in real time about the spread of this contagion.  But if you are participating in social media you are probably receiving a constant stream of mixed fear, blame and hope surrounding this event.  No matter how positive the spin you may be observing is, like the neighbors singing to each other or children visiting elderly loved ones on opposite sides of the glass.  They still have the underpinning of this "unsafe" reality.  I don't want to be mistaken here.  Seeing people rise up together is truly a miracle that our society needs desperately.  This being said,  Our nervous systems are very much so hijacked by this fear of the unknowing.  I encourage you to yes, heed the calls to stay in and to take protective measures and to call those you love.  But outside of staying informed I invite you to turn of the T.V. and replace this fear feed with one of loving kindness.  Practice mindfulness, here are some simple techniques you can observe on your own

  • Loving Kindness Meditation

  • Breath Focus (Inhale:Exhale, 1:2, 1:1)

  • Mantra

  • Object Focused Meditation

  • Movement Based Meditation (yoga/ tai chi)
